So recently I've been working nights on top of
My Dj schedule so I've been even less able to use my monitors when I'd like to much to my chagrin.
Currently I've been using my sennheiser Hd25s which although are nice for djing leave my ears feeling quite fatigued after only a short time and never really felt like they give a truly accurate stereo reference compared to my dodgy iPod headphones

Any suggestions

Try the Sony MDR-V6's. They're not too expensive. Only $100 and don't leave you're ears tired at all. I've worn them for hours at a time with no problem. They're not as good as studio monitors, but then again, I don't know if any headphones are.

I sprung for a pair of Sennheiser HD650s recently, and I can't recommend them highly enough. Incredible sound, and you can wear them for hours without any problems.

bump. New apartment with a dedicated studio/office room but with a baby sleeping on the next floor down. My speakers are just some Bose MediaMate's but the bass seems to go straight through my desk and the floor. I was thinking about trying to isolate them with some monitor pads (or maybe even hanging them from the ceiling?) but I'm not sure if that would do the trick.

My current headphones are a 5-year-old pair of Audio-Technica Pro5's, and they are not very comfortable to wear for too long, especially since I wear glasses.

In terms of middle of the range monitoring headphones, I'm a big fan of AKGs. Which pair to look at depends on what you want (closed, semi-open, etc).

Amazon is blowing out the original K-240 series right now. I have a pair of the K-240 MKII model and they're really solid headphones.

Yeah I'm mostly looking for something for home studio and maybe long Amtrak rides; the ATH-Pro5's are fine for DJing still. I actually just tried these ATH-M50's in store though, and they sound pretty decent. Slightly lower price range than what's being discussed in this thread, but they seem like definite contenders for me.

Sony MDR-7506's. I've been doing some booming for films lately and I can wear these for a full day without them hurting my ears. Way light, nice flat response. I also use them for long stretches while doing my podcast.

They're the industry standard in location recording for a reason.
