So, I played it safe by making an emotionally ambiguous mixtape and my plan backfired on me. She just saw as a friendly gift. At least she liked it.

So what's the general opinion: Is giving away/receiving a mix cd as good as a mix tape?
I deffinitely prefer CDs: easier recording, more space for design, you can rip the tracks you really like from it.

You are either considerably younger than I am, or you're crazy.

Can i get a dissaproval
I'm making a mix cd for a former longterm crush (she keeps asking me to)
and all the songs I'm picking out are turning out to be subconsciously creepy, creepy because I chill with her and her gf often
Songs like: you are my high, baby o - feelings, dull flame of desire
heartbeat, nu nu, only love can break your heart, till we meet again, sun can't compare
hahah :|

after realizing this I'm trying to fit some dj funk, assault, and german weirdo shit on to balance it out and come off inconspicuous
or maybe possibly she'll sense a theme and become uncomfortable around me Which is okay too

nvrmind this IS about an appreciation!

You adding some DJ Funk makes me think even more that you should post it on the board when complete!

nahhhh
well maybe -one day
I don't think I'd make one for someone who liked me back though
too cheesy & not enough masochism involved=no motivation to

and I'm 90% sure her gf would be flattered
& then they'd engage in an act of copulation

but hey she "loved it" so the gift of music carries on

Your breadth of musical knowledge probably makes it harder. Back in the day I probably just put whatever 112 song was hot and threw on some R. Kelly and Aaliyah. 8-)

I have a tape player and I still listen to (and occasionally buy) tapes. I save all my old mix tapes and cds. Even from people I don't like.

Mix tapes and cds have always been my shit. Started making them in junior high, I guess. My best friend and I would make them for each other from cds we'd get or tape songs off the radio and they still remind me of very specific times and places, and people. I had this one boyfriend in high school that sent me tapes after I moved away. That's how I learned to like Tupac and Junior Mafia. He also threw in The Emotions' "Best of My Love"--I still can't hear that song and *not* think of him fondly.

In college some friends and I did a cd exchange where we all made cds and sent them to everyone on a list. That was cool, even if the lazy people just burned a copy of an album. I did that again this year, actually.

A few years ago I started dating this guy and I was going to tell him I didn't want to see him anymore, but that night he gave me the best mix I've ever gotten and I let him ruin 2.5 years of my life because of it (and several more mixes).

I love making mixes for people, but a lot of folks don't appreciate them. It's such a let down when people are like, "Oh. Thanks?" :-( The #1 way I can tell I'm sweating a guy is if I make him an iTunes playlist. I don't think I've burned one in years, but if you rank, you get a tentative mix/soundtrack. I'm about ready for that, and having a guy make me one. It's a failsafe way to get into my heart.

My friend just got a mix tape from his friend at an xmas party last night. Side A was a 2 bar loop intro of a Green Day song for the whole time until the very end then it broke into the song. Side B was a Weezer song then a 2 bar loop of the outro for the rest of the tape.

It was pretty awesome. Side A felt like jerking off on cocaine and side B everyone started singing the refrain and doing weird harmonies and offsetting the start times.

Man this was the reason I signed up for Columbia house for .1 cent back in the 90's. I had a cool ass Aiwa stereo that I could program a mixtape with the 5 CD changer and just leave it alone without constantly stopping and recording. I made a bomb ass sex mixtape that started out with some sweet but sexy Brian Mcknight and Boyz II Men then progressively got more freaky to R Kelly and 112. Too bad I never got to use it because the girls I was with weren't that much into RnB.
